WESTPORT - Wayne Allen “Jorgy” Jorgensen, age 87, of Westport, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024. He was born on Aug. 9, 1936, in Saint Paul, Minn., the son of Harley and Violet (Payson) Jorgensen.
Jorgy graduated from South St. Paul High School in 1954. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving in patrol bombers until 1957.
Jorgy attended and completed courses in Electronics at National Technical Schools of Los Angeles, Calif., and the University of Minnesota Extension, Lakewood Community College and Bell System Center for Technical Education in Engineering. He married Jackie George in 1988 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Monona, Wis.
Jorgy worked as a civil engineer for Northwestern Bell for 24 years. Other employment included Donohue and Associates of Sheboygan, Wis., as Midwest Regional Engineering Manager and Wisconsin Bell. He later owned and operated Jorgensen Technologies, Inc. and Scale Serve, Inc. Jorgy was a hobbyist pilot, owning his own plane for a time. He served in Civil Air Patrol assisting with searches for lost planes. Jorgy was co-founder of the Four Lakes Metal Detector Club and a long-time member. His hobbies included hunting, fishing (including trips to Canada for 50 years with Vern), boy scout leading, genealogy, winemaking and stained-glass creations.
In 1999 Jorgy married Mary Michels Cavitt at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Monona.
Jorgy was a very proud veteran and honored to participate in the Badger Honor Flight, accompanied by his daughter, Denise. Jorgy enjoyed going to the Colonial Club in Sun Prairie where he loved visiting with friends, playing and teaching cribbage, and playing other card games.
Jorgy is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Craig, Brian (deceased wife, Rhonda), Wayne (Theresa), Denise (Mark) Strohmenger, Dana (Curtis) Reiger and Patrick; stepsons, Nicholas Cavitt (Niccole) and Ryan Cavitt (Keri); siblings, Keith, Ray and Midge; 24 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and his constant companion, Sophie. He was preceded in death by his parents; late wife, Jackie; son, Hal Jorgensen; sister, Jill Theissen; granddaughter, Samantha Reiger; and two babies.
The family wishes to thank Agrace HospiceCare for their outstanding care and concern for Jorgy in his final days. A heartfelt thank you goes out to long-time friends Trista, Amy and Mary H. who gave Mary the love and support needed to fulfill Jorgy’s final wishes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 16, 2024, with Father Michael Tarigopula presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Rosary will be recited prior to the visitation at 8:30 a.m. Family and friends who wish to view the Mass via LIVE STREAM may visit Jorgy’s obituary page at www.gundersonfh.com and click on the Live Webcast Link at 11 a.m. on Friday. A luncheon will follow the Mass at church. Burial will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minn. at a later date
